Panel Cutter is a part of a series of small independent add-ons designed for those who want their external plugins efficient and lightweight. What it does is very simple and that is to create “panel cut” details from edges that are marked sharp inside Blender’s edit mode. This makes it easier to turn even the simplest geometry into a detailed scifi model.

The add-on works in both object and edit mode. By default, the resulting panel cut geometry is a separate object but you have the option to “merge” it to the original object.

The operator button can be found quite easily using the W specials menu in both object and edit mode.

The redo panel or operator menu itself is quite simple and only has the functions necessary for you to create different effects and workflows.

The add-on can be used to quickly detail simple models to complicated ones. These panel details can also be easily baked as normal details for particular areas of the model or its entirety.

The model above is a mixture of manually and randomly generated panel details. The same result can be done using Random Flow with certain effects specific to Panel Cutter like not needing the clipping feature for mirrored objects or elevating the panel cut islands to random heights.

Added new operator called Mark Boundary that selects the boundary edges of selected faces and mark sharps them.

Edge Walk can now be used to unmark sharp edges by pressing the Ctrl key and clicking on the operator button.

Fix for error when using the node type in the Panel Cut operator that uses geonode to create panel cuts in Blender 5.2.

Added a new toggle in the Edge Walk parameter called Limit Sharp. Turning this off will not delimit the edge walk feature on edges that are marked sharp.

The add-on now has a menu of its own that can be called using the Shift T hotkey that can be changed in the user preferences.

Added a new operator called Edge Walk will select the entire edgeloop and mark sharp edges from
any edge selection.

Added the node type again in the Panel Cut operator with a new geonode setup. This time marked
sharp edges are cut and the face islands they generate will be extruded. You can choose between
Random and Vertex Color modes for the extrusion depth or height. Random uses random values for the extrusion height or depth while Vertex Color uses vertex color values.

Added Vertex Color submenu containing the Set, Pick, Select and Average operators which will let
you manually set vertex colors on selected faces when using the geonode setup.

Poly Line has two new toggles which are the Mark Sharp and Mark Seam. Mark Sharp is activated using the E hotkey with Mark Seam using the M hotkey. They are useful when used in combination with the new geonode feature.
