What is Afterglow?
Afterglow is a collection of emissive lighting assets designed to help you achieve incredible lighting with ease, packaged in the form of an asset library (not to be confused with an addon).

Designed for the Cycles rendering engine, Afterglow helps to give your light setups a physical presence, providing accurate reflections and soft bounce lighting.

The types of assets available to you include light cages (see the studio cages and character cages sections below), materials, and more comprehensive studio environments, which have been designed to allow for an immense level of customization.

Studio Environments

Porsche GT3 RS model by Black Snow on Sketchfab (not included), inside of the Studio 7 preset environment, with the ‘1:2 Triangles’ texture applied to the ceiling light and modified by a color gradient.
Studio environments are entire rooms with highly customizable light sources that will allow you to take full control over the lighting. As well as mapped lights, the material properties of the room can be changed in any way you like to modify the amount of light bounced around the scene.

Absolutely everything is customizable, and if you don’t like the default layout or settings, then you can modify the presets in the included asset library to suit your specific style or workflow.

The high degree of customization allows you to experiment with a multitude of visual lighting styles, ranging from elegant to vibrantly bombastic. 

2.2 – Display Cases Update

Version 2.2 adds a collection of display cases of various sizes, each following a standardized style with overhead light bars which can be easily moved around. This is especially effective for highlighting areas of focus within larger display structures. Also included with version 2.2 is a ‘Physical Definition’ material, specifically designed to highlight curvature details on objects (such as sculpts and scans), as seen with the 3D scans in the image above. Note that the 3D scans shown here are not included, and are available on Sketchfab courtesy of the Minneapolis Institute of Art and The Hunt Museum (CC0). 

2.1 – Light Shapes Update
Version 2.1 adds a ‘Light Shapes’ category, containing both 3D (geometric) and 2D (image plane) objects that provide complex lighting and reflections to objects. The included image planes are focused on a painterly style, while the 3D geometries are designed to provide a spherical influence of light around a center point. The geometric light shapes also have more advanced light-color control through their associated shaders.

Afterglow V2.0 adds product platform templates, new ceiling light patterns, rebalanced studio / character cage lighting, brand new asset thumbnails, updated materials and more!
