INTRODUCTION
The core of this course is the practical deconstruction of nine iconic Hollywood looks using behind-the-scenes images as reference. You will see how to rebuild the looks of films like Tenet, Skyfall, and Children of Men from scratch using a disciplined, minimal node tree.
In the later sections, the course transitions from analysis to application. The principles developed through working with BTS stills are applied to log-encoded footage, demonstrating how the same structural approach translates to real-world camera material.
COURSE STATUS & UPDATES
Reverse Engineering the Grade has been available online since 2023 and has received multiple major updates in 2024 and 2025. The course is actively maintained and continues to grow, with new lessons added over time as the workflow evolves.

The Vectorscope
This lesson introduces the vectorscope as a tool for analyzing color harmony and balance. It outlines what the vectorscope is useful for, where its limitations lie, and why it should not be treated as a complete picture on its own.
The goal is to build awareness of both its strengths and its boundaries, so it can be used as a reference for evaluating color relationships rather than as an absolute judge.
Color Harmony
This lesson looks at how different color relationships influence the overall feel of an image. Using real examples, it focuses on how harmony, contrast, and balance emerge through color choices, and how these relationships affect mood and cohesion. The emphasis is on recognizing patterns rather than memorizing rules.
Vectorscope Patterns
This lesson focuses on reading the vectorscope as a whole rather than chasing individual colors. By looking at broader patterns across different looks, the goal is to develop a clearer sense of balance and structure, making it easier to evaluate color decisions with confidence.
ORANGE & TEAL
A key element of the course is creating an orange and teal look. I will explore four different methods for achieving an Orange & Teal Look and share my insights on each. I will explain why one method stands out as the most effective and flexible, delivering the most pleasing results.
Additionally, you will learn how to modify these looks, which can lead to a variety of different looks, which I will explain further throughout the course etc
